Everytime I call the surgery I am met with hostility and rudeness. These receptionists need to be put on a soft skills course as clearly they have forgotten the correct way to deal with the public, they seem to be constantly trying to prove people wrong or belittle them. I don't think being questioned as to wether a young baby needs an appointment desperately when it has been requested by the health visitor that same day is very good conduct as well that stress is not needed. The doctors are great once you manage to get an appointment and really do listen to what your needs are.

The computer screen to register arrival was not working properly causing a queue of patients wanting to speak to the receptionist. There was only one receptionist available. Not happy that having had to touch a screen handled by other sick patients there was no hand sanitiser in the container by reception. It was just gone nine in the morning so it must have been empty some time. Told the receptionist and nothing was done. Someone needs to be assigned the duty of making sure it is not empty. There was another one in the hallway to the consulting rooms but only one person coming in used it as I don't think people were aware it was there. The surgery waiting room was full because nurses and doctors were running late and several people who needed seats were not able to sit down. Struggle to understand why the receptionist has to be making telephone calls to patients whilst people are waiting at reception it would be better at the busiest time of day to have one duty to attend to. This surgery is struggling to cope and having a rating of "good" is not going to help.

Very Impressed. On Friday 25th November I Phoned the Surgery at 8am and got straight through I was offered the appointment I wanted at 10am I was called in by the doctor at exactly 10am and by 10-30am I had collected the prescribed medicine from the local chemist. Very impressed the best service I have received in the last 20 years. Mr R Sharp (West Mersea)

I phoned the surgery this morning for an appointment but they had all gone. When I explained my problem to the receptionist, she listened and was very helpful. A short while later the surgery rang me back with an appointment. The service was excellent and nothing was too much trouble. I then saw an amazing lovely caring Doctor who made me feel cared for and was very reassuring. I hope everyone has the same amazing experience as I have had. Thank you.

Everyone works incredibly hard to give a good service to their patients. What problems there are are mostly to do with the inadequacy of the present facilities. Getting an appointment with a doctor is often headline news, but at our surgery nobody with an urgent problem will fail to be seen, even if it means waiting until the end of surgery. There are often long delays in getting bloods appointments - this can sometimes be an issue as many people have difficulty in getting to the Walk-in Centre. This is doubtless down to a funding issue, particularly when it comes to holiday or sickness cover for the phlebotomists.

Response from Mersea Island Medical Practice

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. Earlier this year we had some issues with phlebotomy capacity due to a period of prolonged sickness and absence amongst our team, but having brought some new staff into the team we hope that our service will have returned to normal.
